The alleged financial abuses are related to city-owned building land.
Current mayor, Radomir Nikolic told a news conference that the complaint was filed with the Special Prosecution in Belgrade, and concerns several persons.
Nikolic - the son of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic who comes from the ranks of the SNS party and who succeeded Stevanovic - also announced that his predecessor will face two more criminal complaints.
Stevanovic started his political career in 1993 as a member of the Serbian assembly from the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO). He was elected to the mayor's office in Kragujevac three times: in 1996, 2004, and 2008.
In 2009 Stevanovic became the leader of the Movement Together for Sumadija, and was dismissed as mayor in 2014.
If Mr Stefanovic is indicted and prosecuted for corruption could he face a lengthy prison sentence like disgraced former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick of Detroit,Michigan,U.S.A.? If not could it be because the Serb judicial system is somewhat more lenient with criminals than the American judicial system? But then again and according to some Mr Kilpatrick's reason for receiving a lenghthy prison sentence is because he's black (although Detroit is a predomantly black city where white people are a minority the judge in this case was white) so having mentioned that some people speculate that the former Detroit mayor's punishment would be less severe if he were a Caucasian.Go figure.R
