SAJ marks Unity Day; Vučić received recognition and stated: "SAJ is the backbone of every country" PHOTO
As part of the observance of Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ) Day, President Vučić laid a wreath today at the memorial wall for fallen SAJ members at the unit’s base near Batajnica and addressed those present.
“Special units are“, as he said, “the backbone of every country, a serious resource. Sixteen people laid down their lives for the state, and all I can say is immeasurable thank you and to convey that the state will repay their families,” Vučić said.
“Things around us will only become more difficult. I hope we will manage to avoid the vortex of war conflict looming over Europe,” Vučić noted, stressing that he has never seen anything like this before, not even in the 1990s.
He laid the wreath accompanied by Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, Police Director Dragan Vasiljević, and SAJ Commander Colonel Igor Žmirić, while a minute of silence was observed in honor of the fallen SAJ members.
The memorial wall bears the engraved names of 16 fallen members who lost their lives honorably and bravely in the line of duty, and tribute was paid to them.
As part of the observance of Special Anti-Terrorist Unit Day, members of the unit began performing a demonstration exercise, which is also being attended by Vučić.
