Three countries - Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Romania - objected to an invitation for Kosovo, which they do not recognize, while the presidents of Albania and Croatia announced they would not take part since Kosovo is not invited.
Macedonia has acted fully in line with the SEECP regulations. Unfortunately, old Balkan prejudices and complexes have surfaced in the run-up to the summit and I will not let Macedonia pay the price, said Ivanov, the organizer of the event.
He says challenges are overcome through dialogue.
"We have been preparing for this summit all year and we have done everything to bring all leaders from the region to the same table," he said.
Ivanov wished the next summit organizer success and expressed hope it will take place in "a more European Balkans."
This is a clear signal to Europe, which reflects the reality in our region and it should serve as a warning, said Ivanov, noting that "state integrity and dignity are most important."
Before the summit was canceled, a spokesman for EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule denied reports of Albanian language media in Priština that Fule had decided not to attend.
Reading the comments I realised Albanians read more Serbian news online than Serbs themselves! Wow! Isn't Kosovo a "beacon for media success"? Go read your news websites or you don't trust them? Or you believe Kosovo is still part of Serbia? I don't get you! I don't get your ignorance either! the SEECP (South-East European Cooperation Process) is an organisation for cooperation between countries in south-east Europe, it's members are namely Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Greece. Among these states FIIVE DO NOT RECOGNISE THE REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO (Serbia, Romania, Greece, Bosnia, Moldova)! Kosovo is simply not a member of the organisation! Strictly speaking,Serbia (including it's southern province of Kosovo and Metohija) is a member, therefore, Kosovo cannot participate except as an observer entity! Thus Croatia and Albania do not have the right to object the absence of Kosovo in the summit in the first place. Kosovo has to apply for membership in the SEECP but they simply can't because the rules upon which the organisation was founded is only UN members can join, go educate yourselves instead of spreading nonsense or go spread your nonsense somewhere else and give the Serbs a break!
(Quatro, 29 May 2013 21:55)
I am from Kosovo and I read the news on CNN and BBC, but I am not sure now if Kosovo is a part of US or UK, you tell me please?
(Hekuran, 4 June 2013 09:41)
No Peggy I am not, I merely pointed out that Kosova has not been Serbian forever, because it hasn't. Serbia hasn't been Serbian forever either, so if you're going to write stupid things and then dress them up as metaphors, don't complain when people take you up on it. In what way is Kosova has been Serbian forever a figure of speech?
(Nikolle, 3 June 2013 10:54)
@Peggy. " Just because the Albanians moved to Serbia, C.G & Macedonia it doesn't mean its their's". Why are you reluctant to mention how the Krajina Serbs also moved to Croatia 'trying' to claim Croatian territory as theirs when frankly its not...It appears that today's Serbs even the diaspora are lost without their beloved Tito.
(Bam Bam, 2 June 2013 08:02)
Kosova has been Serbian forever? How long is forever now, because I can sure as hell think of many centuries when Kosova hasn't been Serbian. In fact, it's been not Serbian longer than it's been Serbian
(Nikolle, 31 May 2013 17:41)
===…==
Are you sure you are not icj1? You must know that when someone says forever it's a figure of speech. Forever represents a very long time.
Either you are not familiar with many English expressions or you are icj1 with another identity because you just sounded really stupid.
(Peggy, 1 June 2013 00:38)
Kosova has been Serbian forever? How long is forever now, because I can sure as hell think of many centuries when Kosova hasn't been Serbian. In fact, it's been not Serbian longer than it's been Serbian
(Nikolle, 31 May 2013 17:41)
Peggy,
I am not going anywhere, just stating facts. Obviously you have a problem with that, a way or another. Albanians are born and raised in their lands, never occupied anyone's land. We are a small nation, with a unique a indo-eupean language . We have the same interests, and will defend them united. Either deal with it, or get out of our way.
(Brandon, 31 May 2013 13:16)
Ron,
I want to remind you that none of those nations are surround from all sides of their borders, by their own people ( as Albania).
===…==
Yes they are. There are Serbs living in Croatia (in huge numbers before expulsion), Bosnia, Montenegro and Macedonia. Not mentioning Kosovo because that is Serbia.
Just because Albanians moved to Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro does not mean that these are your lands. When are you going to get that? On the contrary, Serbs lived on all the lands I mentioned forever. There is so much evidence of that which you have none of to back what you are saying.
Albanians are spreading all over Europe. God help Europe, for that too will be considered Albanian land.
(Peggy, 31 May 2013 01:39)
Daniel,
Just ask the Jackals member on trial , in your court of law. Also take a look at film footage in Srbrenica , Dubrovnik, and those refrigerated vehicles full of victims in the river.
Ron,
I want to remind you that none of those nations are surround from all sides of their borders, by their own people ( as Albania). Furthermore in none of those cases the majority of the nation is left outside the borders of the country. While there is a well established pattern of minorities across Europe, none of those minorities is greater than the population of the mother country (as in the case of Albanians).
(Brandon, 30 May 2013 21:18)
True, you spread violence, criminality, heroin and organtrafficking wherever you go.
(Daniel, 30 May 2013 09:00)
Right, as opposed to world peace that you spread wherever you go.....
Point is that no one benefited from this and Serbia is displaying a typical intolerant balkan style mentality which we all need to get away from.
we owe to each other to at least talk and act as civilized people.
(Denis, 30 May 2013 16:46)
(comment, 30 May 2013 14:01
One huge error in your argument. It may be true from a Serbian point of view, however, there are approximately 100 nations that disagree as they do not see Kosovo in the group you choose to put it but view it as a sovereign state, and not a separatist movement inside another.
And even you would have to agree that none of the other groups raised a news item as none of them were invited to the meeting either.
(a New Day, 30 May 2013 15:47)
Kosovo(est 2008) is in the same political limbo as Northern Cyprus (est 1983) in Cyprus , Transnistria (est 1990) in Moldova, and Republika Serbska(est 1995) in BiH, which is why Greece, Romania and BiH do not recognize Kosovo and do not want them to participate in in the SEECP as they have there own separatists problems to deal with, on the other hand Croatia is still cranky that they were forced to make Serbian(Cyrillic) a co-offical language in Vukovar earlier this year which is why they sided with Kosovo, and Bulgaria is still unhappy with Macedonia’s making of the film ‘the third half’ last year highlighting Bulgaria’s participation with the nazis in WW2 which is why they boycotted, so Ivanov was correct in blaming 'enduring prejudices in the region' for the cancellation of the SEECP.
(comment, 30 May 2013 14:01)
"How can you have regional prosperity if you don't invite Kosovo (Albanians) who represent around 9 million in the region. "
(Krasniq't, 29 May 2013 23:57)
Oh, there are 9 millions of Albanians in Kosovo now? I thought whole Kosovo has not even 2 millions of citizens, including some 100.000 Serbs living there and some 100.000s expelled from their homes and some 100.000 Kosovo-Albanians living abroad?
(Questioner, 30 May 2013 13:05)
"Macedonia should have invited all the countries, and they should have not let any country to dictate who is allowed to attend and who is not!!! "
(Krasniq't, 29 May 2013 23:57)
In fact, they did exactly that. They only didn't invite the unique case of a self-proclaimed, non recognized country and other clubs and clans.
(Comm. Parrisson, 30 May 2013 11:27)
Too bad for Macedonia - that's a lot of work wasted.
When Serbia raised a similar fuss a couple of years ago and tried to persuade Slovakia not to attend a meeting in Poland (I think it was Poland), the diplomats found a way of finessing the problem. Slovakia didn't go to the first day's meetings and made Serbia happy, but did go to the second day for the dinner with Obama, which the Serbian papers managed to ignore. After the stink this time, hosts in the future will want to think about how much they actually have to fear from Serbia's displeasure. Better to let one country stay home and sulk than call the whole thing off at the last minute.
(Amer, 30 May 2013 11:04)
Power play, lost badley by Serbia. What an embarrassing move. What else can you expect from someone like Nicolic? At least Tadic was smart enough to know Serbia had no pull, and would simply not show when Kosovo was invited. Serbia against all the ex Yugo republics again. It lost the war and it's loosing the peace too. Someone should spell it out for Serbs as they just keep missing the signs.
Bonus point loss for Serbia: Thaci will probably mentioned this next time he meets with Ashton and Dacic as a leverage to put pressure on Dacic . Nice one Nicolic. Dacic and Vucic lost all the brownie points they had earned in the last few months from the EU.

can u say BACKFIRE
hahahhahahah
and Serbia thought by playing its old stupid games, will go un-noticed by the neighbors. it's sickening!
(DD, 29 May 2013 18:59)
===…==
So it was noticed, so what? I don't find it sickening but if you do then I'm glad because it's childish of you to find it that disturbing.
BTW, Serbia didn't even have to object because Romania did it for them. Are you finding Romania sickening too?
Seems like you are forgetting there are rules which would prevent Macedonia from inviting "Kosova" anyway.
Just keep driving home that there is no country without Serbia's blessing.
(Peggy, 30 May 2013 01:35)
sadly Bosnia 'supporting' its worst enemy Serbia. not surprised FYROM accepting dirty Serbian orders not to invite the neighburing Kosova. We have some one there mos influental country -Albania. but very much thanks to our truly friend - Croatia as well. so cancel this sh***t no need - we don't want you too..
(Naim, 30 May 2013 00:07)
1. Only states should participate. So not Kosovo province. UNMIK is fine, of course!
2. Macedonia should take part as Macedonia and not as FYROM
3. Albanians in Macedonia should distance themselves from Albania and focus more on Macedonia (cooperation cross border is fine of course)
(Ron, 30 May 2013 00:06)
agree - Insha' Allah, we will win and establish one cool democratic Sharia all over the Balkans and kuffir Slavs, Greeks, Romanians and others are going to love it!!! Hahaha! This dude is very funny, must be a comedian, or he must be smoking some extremely mind altering substances? Dude, when will you backwards thinking people get it? In our Albanian lands, religion is secondary, Albanianism is at the forefront of our thinking & policy's, little buddy! Besides, your Serbia has much more in common with ancestry, with the entity's you are referring to! So please, keep up the good work on helping us with our national awakening!!! The greater Albania, you so much fear will be realized a lot faster, with people like you around! Of course it is destined to happen, thanks to Serbia's help! Oh, don't forget to take a peek into the link I have provided you!

This is just another shameful episode for Serbia whose tarnished image certainly does not need to be made even uglier. Serbia can't seem to make a positive baby step forward without following it with several negative giant steps backward. It appears Serbia's need to hurt others far exceeds the necessity to help herself.
I'm sure the EU and particularly Germany are looking on with disappointment and thinking that their aid would be better served for a more deserving EU candidate.
(The Count of Kosova, 29 May 2013 23:05)
Another self-inflicted shot in the foot for Belgrade. It was the right decission to cancel this sumit which would have nothing been but a BBQ meeting where Serbia could have celebrated its redicules politics. Serbia is the looser in this, and made a fool of itself once more
(Willi pfaff, 29 May 2013 18:00)
Lmao ya you're right. An unimportant summit of incompetent corrupt leaders in the Balkans who have drug ties was cancelled. Serbia lost so much :(
Personally, whether the KLA would have showed up or not makes no difference whatsoever. These summits are a waste of time and money. They do nothing to improve the living standards of everyday people.
I really love this German pretending Albo. Like actually love him.

The brussels agreement clearly indicated that Serbia had to support kosovas participation and needed to aggressively pressure macedonia to invite kosova!
(Brian, 29 May 2013 21:20)
Mr. Ivanov, you squashed your integrity by not inviting Kosovo, a country your parliment recognized as independent, and lost your dignity by cancelling this event.
In the process, you gave Kosovo more power than you and Serbia thought she had and managed to alienate even further the largest minority group
in Macedonia.
Keep up the good work!

Conclusion: Macedonia acted perfectly in line with the SEECP regulations and statutes by not inviting Kosovo, because it's not recognized state.
Now Serbia (by announcing unnecessary 'objections') and Albania (by canceling the participation) made a fuzz about it. A shame.

They should have invited Kosovo as observer, because they recognise Kosovo.

If you sign agreements with Kosovo better honour it.

A very predictable outcome! And better yet, a bitter lesson for Serbia & the countries that take her misguided advise! A very important & symbolic victory for Kosova & her allies in the region. Serbia, these gestures & developments should make it quite clear to you, that the ever growing "Albanian factor" in the region will be respected by Serbia!!! A new Balkan alliance is taking form by the day, and you Serbia only help expedite her formation! So thank you, thank you first if all for making a fool out of yourself, and second, thank you for putting "Kosova" at the forefront of any new Balkan policies & developments!

Besides, your Serbia has much more in common with ancestry, with the entity's you are referring to! So please, keep up the good work on helping us with our national awakening!!! Right, as opposed to world peace that you spread wherever you go.....
Point is that no one benefited from this and Serbia is displaying a typical intolerant balkan style mentality which we all need to get away from.
we owe to each other to at least talk and act as civilized people.

What will be next? Albania not participating in the UN any more, because the unrecognized pseudo-state of Kosovo is not allowed to be there, or only as an observer?
(Questioner, 29 May 2013 19:27)
Power play, lost badley by Serbia.
(BalkanUpdate, 30 May 2013 06:06)
The brussels agreement clearly indicated that Serbia had to support kosovas participation and needed to aggressively pressure macedonia to invite kosova!
(Brian, 29 May 2013 21:20)
1. Only states should participate. So not Kosovo province. UNMIK is fine, of course!
2. Macedonia should take part as Macedonia and not as FYROM
3. Albanians in Macedonia should distance themselves from Albania and focus more on Macedonia (cooperation cross border is fine of course)
(Ron, 30 May 2013 00:06)
Daniel,
Just ask the Jackals member on trial , in your court of law.
(Brandon, 30 May 2013 21:18)
"Macedonia should have invited all the countries, and they should have not let any country to dictate who is allowed to attend and who is not!!!

BTW, Serbia didn't even have to object because Romania did it for them. Are you finding Romania sickening too?
Seems like you are forgetting there are rules which would prevent Macedonia from inviting "Kosova" anyway.
Just keep driving home that there is no country without Serbia's blessing.
(Peggy, 30 May 2013 01:35)
Peggy,
I am not going anywhere, just stating facts. Obviously you have a problem with that, a way or another. Albanians are born and raised in their lands, never occupied anyone's land. We are a small nation, with a unique a indo-eupean language . We have the same interests, and will defend them united. Either deal with it, or get out of our way.
(Brandon, 31 May 2013 13:16)
"Macedonia has acted fully in line with the SEECP regulations. Unfortunately, old Balkan prejudices and complexes have surfaced in the run-up to the summit and I will not let Macedonia pay the price, said Ivanov, the organizer of the event."
Conclusion: Macedonia acted perfectly in line with the SEECP regulations and statutes by not inviting Kosovo, because it's not recognized state.
Now Serbia (by announcing unnecessary 'objections') and Albania (by canceling the participation) made a fuzz about it. A shame.

(a New Day, 30 May 2013 15:47)
"How can you have regional prosperity if you don't invite Kosovo (Albanians) who represent around 9 million in the region.
(Questioner, 30 May 2013 13:05)
Kosovo(est 2008) is in the same political limbo as Northern Cyprus (est 1983) in Cyprus , Transnistria (est 1990) in Moldova, and Republika Serbska(est 1995) in BiH, which is why Greece, Romania and BiH do not recognize Kosovo and do not want them to participate in in the SEECP as they have there own separatists problems to deal with, on the other hand Croatia is still cranky that they were forced to make Serbian(Cyrillic) a co-offical language in Vukovar earlier this year which is why they sided with Kosovo, and Bulgaria is still unhappy with Macedonia’s making of the film ‘the third half’ last year highlighting Bulgaria’s participation with the nazis in WW2 which is why they boycotted, so Ivanov was correct in blaming 'enduring prejudices in the region' for the cancellation of the SEECP.
(comment, 30 May 2013 14:01)
Ron,

Yes they are. There are Serbs living in Croatia (in huge numbers before expulsion), Bosnia, Montenegro and Macedonia. Not mentioning Kosovo because that is Serbia.
Just because Albanians moved to Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro does not mean that these are your lands. When are you going to get that? On the contrary, Serbs lived on all the lands I mentioned forever. There is so much evidence of that which you have none of to back what you are saying.
Albanians are spreading all over Europe. God help Europe, for that too will be considered Albanian land.
(Peggy, 31 May 2013 01:39)
Kosova has been Serbian forever? How long is forever now, because I can sure as hell think of many centuries when Kosova hasn't been Serbian. In fact, it's been not Serbian longer than it's been Serbian

No Peggy I am not, I merely pointed out that Kosova has not been Serbian forever, because it hasn't. In what way is Kosova has been Serbian forever a figure of speech?

FYROM attempted to humiliate all Albanians, but failed badly. Fortunately there are more realistic leaders in Balkans (like Croatians), that understand the consequences of insulting more than 6 millions of Albanians in this region. Most get it; there is no peace in Balkans without the involvement of Albanian factor. The old policies of racism and apartheid, limiting Albanian participation, will not work. We are one nation, and we react as such in Albania, Kosovo, FYROM, Montenegro, Serbia, Greece and more.
(Brandon, 29 May 2013 18:39)
This is just another shameful episode for Serbia whose tarnished image certainly does not need to be made even uglier.
(The Count of Kosova, 29 May 2013 23:05)
while the presidents of Albania and Croatia announced they would not take part since Kosovo is not invited.
Clear cut pic, that these two above mentioned countries proved to be more powerful than the rest. Kudos to Albania and Croatia. So much for Serbian power of Balkans!?
(the truth, 29 May 2013 18:35)
Serbia and FYROM tried, their move backfired in such a spectacular way!
Apparently the participation came down to only 3 Presidents, Serbia, Bosnia and FYROM. An unimportant to anyone, trilateral meeting.
FYROM can not behave independently and with integrity, too little to late Mr Ivanov to try and protect your FYROM's integrity, if it had one it would not have come to this.
Your behavior did the opposite for everyone to watch.
(Tony_UK, 29 May 2013 18:06)
Next time Macedonia will make sure Kosova is invited, as for Serbia it only showed EU that they are not ready to move on and work according to EU standards. Agreements will be implemented and these occurrences will not be repeated again. Macedonia knew well to back out of this mess, Macedonia will not listen to Serbia again unless they want to go down with Serbia as Serbs already have gone down to the ground long ago.
NO Kosova no Summit... Very simple lol.

FYROM was not right.
They should have invited Kosovo as observer, because they recognise Kosovo.
Serbia jumped and bullied FYROM not to invite Kosovo at all.Next was RS in BH.Serbian comentators, including you, in this site were jumping of joy, yesterday as u finally defeat Kosovo!
Greece did not participate for the problems they have with FYROM.
Albania,Slovenia,Croatia, the Croat-mulsim Federation of BH and Bulgaria solidarised with Kosovo and boycotted the summit.Montenegro was still undecided.
Fyle did not attend the summit too.
Now tell me,was a smart policy from Serbia?
Serbia had sign two agreements with Kosovo for participation in regional meetings with *,and the second one for not blocking each other in EU integrations.
So bully FYROM about Kosovo or Kosovo* participation as an observer in an unimportant summit?
Dont u think it should have been better to allow FYROM to invite Kosovo as observer and the summit to occur?

Besides, your Serbia has much more in common with ancestry, with the entity's you are referring to! So please, keep up the good work on helping us with our national awakening!!! The greater Albania, you so much fear will be realized a lot faster, with people like you around! Of course it is destined to happen, thanks to Serbia's help! Oh, don't forget to take a peek into the link I have provided you!

Ron,
I want to remind you that none of those nations are surround from all sides of their borders, by their own people ( as Albania).
===…==

Peggy,
I am not going anywhere, just stating facts. Obviously you have a problem with that, a way or another. Albanians are born and raised in their lands, never occupied anyone's land. We are a small nation, with a unique a indo-eupean language . We have the same interests, and will defend them united. Either deal with it, or get out of our way.

(Amer, 30 May 2013 11:04)
True, you spread violence, criminality, heroin and organtrafficking wherever you go.

Kosova has been Serbian forever? How long is forever now, because I can sure as hell think of many centuries when Kosova hasn't been Serbian. In fact, it's been not Serbian longer than it's been Serbian

Are you sure you are not icj1? You must know that when someone says forever it's a figure of speech. Forever represents a very long time.
Either you are not familiar with many English expressions or you are icj1 with another identity because you just sounded really stupid.

Daniel,
Just ask the Jackals member on trial , in your court of law.
(Brandon, 30 May 2013 21:18)
Oh noooo.... why? This was supposed to be such a smashing success.
Who's going to drink all the champagne? Is the cake going to feel lonely?
(Common Sense, 29 May 2013 18:28)

(a New Day, 30 May 2013 15:47)
No Peggy I am not, I merely pointed out that Kosova has not been Serbian forever, because it hasn't. Serbia hasn't been Serbian forever either, so if you're going to write stupid things and then dress them up as metaphors, don't complain when people take you up on it. In what way is Kosova has been Serbian forever a figure of speech?
(Nikolle, 3 June 2013 10:54)
