1. This Jeremic is a class act. One day he is recieveing recognition from Yad Vashem on behalf of his Bosnian Muslim ancestors (mothers relatives btw) for saving Jews during WW2, but a couple of days ago he was accommodating extremist and revisionist Serbs in the UN general assembly in which attempts were made to water down the crimes Serbs perpetrated on others during the wars of the 1990s. Funny how it didn't bother Jeremic to invite current Serbian president, Tomislav Nikolic to address the UN, considering he recently denied the massacre of 8000 Bosnian Muslims as an act of Genocide and who also still claimed the Croatian city of Vukovar as being "Serbian". The Srebrenica Genocide doesnt seem to bother Jeremic in the slightest. What a disgrace his Bosnian Muslim ancestors must feel. This is every reason why this man should never have been nominated president of the UN General Assembly .....

  2. Tell me, how many Muslims have Serbian names? You are smart enough to know that you won't find any. So it does matter what's in a name. How many Serbs are Ibrahims or how many Muslims are Vuk? Quote me just one.
A person is what they feel in their heart they are so forcing anything on anyone is ridiculous (like stating that Vuk is Muslim). It doesn't matter if his grandmother is Muslim or not.
In any case, I was replying to the simpletons who have stated that he is Muslim. I never said that you said it.
What do you think a Serb is? Catholic, Muslim? How many Catholics and Muslims say they are Serbs?

    Think about it.

While I agree with the most part of your comment, I must admit that I did not find any muslim with the name Vuk, but yes I met muslims with name Zoran, Dragan and Zlatan. You're right they don't say they are Serbs. However, what I said was that these names can not necessarily make a person orthodox.
However I have met an orthodox person with the name Ibrahim. He is from Egypt. Ibrahim is Arab name it has meaning in Arabic only.
I agree with you the person is what he feels in his heart.
What I tried to say in my previous comment was that the names that have meanings in one language have nothing to do with the religion. I bet they existed even before Serbs adopted orthodox religion.

  3. Muslim is not an ethnicity. It has nothing to do with genetics.

A Muslim is a follower of Islam.

His Excellency, Mr. Vuk Jeremic's bio states that he is member of the world-wide Eastern Orthodox Church in the Serbian tradition.

  4. These names are not religious names. I am not saying that Vuk is muslim far from that, but the name Vuk does not necessary make the person orthodox. It is Serbian name and that's all. You are smart enough to know that.

  5. So which Muslim name has he adopted?
    (Peggy, 20 March 2013 13:25)

    Peggy,
Names like Vuk, Dragan, Zoran which have meanings in Serbian language do not make a person either muslim or orthodox.
These names are not religious names. I am not saying that Vuk is muslim far from that, but the name Vuk does not necessary make the person orthodox. It is Serbian name and that's all. You are smart enough to know that.
He does not have to adopt any muslim name to be muslim. Since his name is Serbian only and not orthodox the name would be left untouched.

On an individual level many Jews may have seen what went on, but this was on a much higher plain. It was only later that I found out that this was an organised effort that was coordinated throughout the world and especially watching Elie Wiesel standing on that podium nearly in tears demanding the Clinton do something - that was the last straw for me. There is no greater lobby than the Jewish lobby in the US. Forget the Bosnians or Albanians they pale into insignificance when you compare them to the Jewish lobby.
I saw what the Greeks did for Serbia during the worst times and I am great full to them, but Israel and the US Jews did not lift a finger and they would have been 1000 per cent more effective if they helped, so this award is a hollow attempt to revert to another period.
It is very sad its turned out this way but its a fact.

  8. Many of the commentators here ought to be ashamed of themselves, continuing with these sectarian comments in the face of one of the most shameful pogroms in the History of Europe. I have no ethnic link to any Balkan community however some of these people who facelessly comment on ethnic destruction of innocent people need to look in the mirror of History and try and work out a political position that will allow all the peoples of the Balkans to live in peace; in spite of the vested interests of all the narrow - minded ethnic/political elites.

You bring up some good points. However one thing you should know is the reason why Bosnians and Albanians were able to get such effective lobby groups to support their cause is because every ethnic group in ex-Yugoslavia were ready for its breakdown except for Serbs. Serbs were the only non-nationalist of the bunch, fantasizing about how Yugoslavia lives in the hearts and minds of everyone. So the fact our enemies had more support is due to our own shortcomings, lack of foresight, loving an anti Serbian union to begin with and betraying Serbian traditionalism for socialism.

However, even with all those Jews you mentioned, none of them happened to be Israelis. Jews in Israel were VERY sympathetic to the Serbian cause in the 1990s, supplies Bosnian Serbs with weapons and have not and will never recognize Kosovo i Metohija.

I believe Serbia needs to deepen its relations with Israel on every possible level because apart from having a common history, we have common interests today.

  11. What I find in this is the timing. Now it’s been 68 years since WW2 and Israel wants to recognise the efforts what one family did all the way back then. For the record many Serbs saved Jews during that time because our history is very similar to theirs, as one South American friend said to me “Serbs are the Jews of Europe” as they have a terrible history of being persecuted in Europe.
Having said this, I find this award rather hollow to say the least as this could have been done a decade ago when it would have helped the Serbs. I find this only opportunistic as the Jews are running out of friends as the US is heading down hill and once that cover is gone Israel will need friends.
I watched at the height of the war in Bosnia when Yitzhak Rabin was on TV in 1994 announce a donation of $6000 toward a Bosnian fund and at the same time Elie Wiesel on a podium with the then US President, Bill Clinton, demanding in front of the world that he take action against the Serbs in Bosnia. Then the Australian tax lawyer Mark Leibler at the time head of the Board of Jewish Deputies, regularly raved on about the inhumanity committed by Serbs in Bosnia knowing very well that it was all propaganda.
This award is hollow in deed. For my part they can look elsewhere for friends. I don’t need fair weather friends like this.

    Of course it doesn't.
The result of Jeremic's political activity for Serbia: 97 countries have recognized the independence of Kosovo.
The result of Jeremic's political activity for his own career: UNGA President. All this achieved with Serbian taxpayers money.
Judge the person based on what he does, not what he says.

  16. Very nice for Serbs to be recognized for good deeds from people that suffered the same fate from occupiers. Needs to be done, because occupiers are changing the hystory books and trying to pretend that they were the victims. Their crimes are rearly ever mentioned any more. Agreement seems to be to distroy Serbia, take everything away from her and tell the world that Serbs are bad people and they deserve the worst. Unfortunately, they pretty much achieved their goal with lies and guns. They have no shame.
