"France shouldn't dismiss Haradinaj extradition request"
"I believe that the requested documentation has reached the French authorities already, and there's no reason for them to dismiss Serbia's extradition request, as Serbia has met all the requirements," Kuburovic told journalists in Belgrade, Beta reported.She "explained that the length of sentence was the main stumbling block, because the previous criminal legislation, giving a prison sentence of up to 20 years for crimes against humanity, was amended to allow sentences of 30 to 40 years for the same crimes."
"The question is which criminal code was in force when the crimes Ramush Haradinaj has been charged with were committed. In other words, is there a more lenient law to be applied in this case? We have forwarded to the court the relevant provisions in force since 1999, from both the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Act, and the responsible authorities will decide which provisions to apply in this specific case," Kuburovic said.
Haradinaj was arrested in France on January 4, based on a war crimes warrant issued by Serbia. The Kosovo Albanian politician and a former commander of the KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army") was soon released from prison but banned from leaving France pending a decision on Serbia's extradition request.
The next hearing is scheduled for April 6.
