Petition to strip Montenegrin students in Serbia of benefits

The petition states that the many Montenegrin youths studying in Serbia have exactly the same benefits as those who are citizens of Serbia, and that this includes the possibility of financing from Serbia's state budget, and the same price of accommodation in student dorms.

The petition further states that "this must end, and as soon as possible," and notes that students from Serbia and those from Montenegro no longer come from the same country, and therefore cannot enjoy equal treatment.

The petition's authors argue that Montenegrins should attend Serbian universities as foreign citizens and pay all expenses that other foreigners do.

They add that "only those Montenegrins whose parents pay taxes in Serbia, and those who graduated from Serbian high schools, or have attended classes in Serbian - as is the case in the Serb Republic (RS) - should be considered domestic students."

"There are numerous abuses, such as fake residency registrations and dual citizenships, and this is well known to everyone," the petition stated, and added that those who attended classes taught in the Montenegrin language before arriving to Serbia should take mandatory Serbian language courses, and then a Serbian language test.

"Serbia behaving as the parent country for Serbs who do not live in Serbia is one thing - but wasting funds on those who are willingly declaring themselves not only as foreign citizens, but as members of another nation, is another. Whose parent country are we, then?" the online petition that has so far been signed over 3,000 times concluded.
