Culture Minister Nebojsa Bradic says a set of laws on the media sector could enter parliamentary procedure next month. He announced the possibility that new bills on broadcasting, media and media concentration will be put up for debate in October. New media laws announced for October In an interview for B92 TV, Bradic said that the laws should define relations in those specific fields, assessing that the current legislation was not perfect and that it is “not being applied to the extent to which it could prove effective”. The minister announced that one of the first laws, the law on broadcasting, would be prepared in October, and that the others, which have already been drafted, would be presented to the parliament. Asked what his earlier announcements on the indispensability of defining the management structure in the media was about, Bradic answered that it referred to the share of the state, and assessed that the state should no longer be the owner of the media. This, he believes, would "practically make the media free and guarantee free access to information for everyone". Bradic also announced a transformation of local media which has been stopped at one point and which should “turn something that is state-owned into something that is private”. The transformation will make it possible for the media to become truly independent, something the local media in the languages of ethnic minorities are also expected to be, Bradic explained.
