Prvi Maj construction company workers stayed the night on the Belgrade-Nis railroad near Lapovo, demanding to meet with government officials. Union President Novica Markovic said that the protest will continue until a solution is found for their demands. Railroad still blocked at Lapovo The workers were promised by the government in July that the company would restart production and that they would receive wages and benefits owed to them. “The blockade of the Lapovo railway is ongoing. The workers stayed the night on the tracks and are adamant about their demands which the state needs to fulfill, because it has compromised their rights to life, not only work,” Markovic said. “No one has contacted us to help us solve our problem, they have only contacted us by phone and asked us to free the railway with promises that there will be a solution found on Thursday or Friday, but the workers do not accept this and are adamant with their demands and the union supports them in this,” he said. Serbian Railways stated that the company has lost millions because of the blockade.
