ČAJETINA --
A man whose reckless driving last year caused a crash that resulted in the death of Milenko Zablaćanski was found guilty today.
Although Petar Šišović could have faced up to eight years in prison, a panel of judges in Čajetina, near Užice, presided over by Judge Zoran Guskić on Wednesday sent him to jail for the minimal envisaged sentence of 12 months, and revoked his driving license, also for a period of 12 months.
Šišović will also pay RSD 106,000 in court fees.
Zablaćanski, a popular Serbian stage and television actor, was critically injured in the traffic accident, and died last January in hospital in Belgrade after spending several weeks in a coma.
Šišić caused the crash after he swerved to the left lane of the three-lane road, crashing into the side of Zablaćanski's vehicle at 103 km/h.
The speed limit on the road near Užice, in western Serbia, is 80 km/h. Zablaćanski was driving at 30 km/h.
The court ruled that the defendant switched lanes "with no justifiable cause".
During the investigating, it was announced that there was no blood alcohol detected in any of the participants in the accident.
