PODGORICA, ZAGREB, SARAJEVO, SKOPJE Fires spread in Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Macedonia on Sunday. During the night, first reports of rain and lower temperatures in some parts of the region arrived, after a lengthy period of drought and heat. Region struggles with wildfires According to Podgorica-based daily Vijesti, fires in several Montenegrin municipalities have not died down and firefighters from Berane have put three large wildfires under control, while their colleagues in Pljevlja are struggling to keep the fire away from residential buildings. There are fires in a number of locations in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the latest information states that 18 fires are raging in Republika Srpska (RS). The situation is the most difficult in Trebinje and Ljubinje, where the fires have been burning for days. Croatian Radio Television (HRT) reports that cooler temperatures accompanied by thunder and showers have reached the country. Pula has seen the first rain in over two months. There was rain across Istria, but the lightning caused small fires. The Macedonian directorate for protection and rescue said on Sunday four fires were active in different locations, but that the situation was the most alarming near the village of Vratnica, in the northwestern part of the country.
