President lays wreath at Mt. Avala memorial on Victory Day

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Monday laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Mt. Avala, near Belgrade, to mark WW2 victory day.

Nikolic signed the book of remembrance:

“Serbia perhaps more that others rightfully marks this day as its own. All our battles, uprisings, rebellions, wars were fought for the freedom of the country and the people. So it was, and so it will be. Such sons and daughters are born by this Serbia of ours."

On Sunday evening, a gun salute at Belgrade's Kalemegdan Fortress marked the start of celebrations of the Serbian Armed Forces Day and Victory Day, after which Nikolic throw a reception for top military officials, Tanjug reported.
