People are still, for the fourth day, standing in long lines in front of the Cathedral Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Belgrade. They are waiting for their turn to pay the last respects to His Holiness Patriarch Pavle, who passed away on Sunday, and is lying in state at the church. Long queues in front of Cathedral Church During the night, ambulances intervened several times, as citizens in the queues complained about exhaustion after waiting for a long time. The late patriarch will be laid to rest on Thursday. Serbian police (MUP) expect that some 500,000 people will attend the ceremony. Serbia is today observing the third day of mourning. The Ministry of Education recommended today to all schools and faculties to give their students a day off tomorrow so that they could attend the funeral. The same recommendation was given yesterday by the government to employers. Meanwhile, Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Bishop of Zahumlje-Herzegovina Grigorije said that a new patriarch would be elected within three months' time, as prescribed by the Church Constitution. The dignitary added that he "did not see himself as the head of the Church", and that he did not expect any strife in the process, "despite the fact that some wish for it to happen".
