Macedonia: Culture minister resigns over play

"What makes me proud is the fact that only those values which promote culture, the Albanian issue in a general sense, and our society as a whole exist in my mind", the letter of resignation says.

According to him, "when a society aims at fresh and clear visions, advocates of dying communism are reminiscent of the past, so pathetic and painful."

The ministry had initially banned "Tito, certain diagrams of desire", explaining that "it does not support projects that are not of state interest".

The ban was withdrawn after sharp public criticism, and the premiere was held in Bitola last Saturday.

Ilirijan Beqiri, 39, was born in Tetovo, where he graduated from the Faculty of Arts. He became M.A. at the Priština University.

In the period between1998 and 2002, he was assistant professor at the Tetovo Faculty of Arts, before a professor in 2002.

He staged several solo exhibitions in Macedonia and the region, and took part at several group exhibitions.
