Fleiner: Resolution 1244 only legal basis

Thomas Fleiner says that UN Resolution 1244 remains the only legal basis for Kosovo negotiations. The Serbian Kosovo team legal adviser told Tanjug news agency on Thursday that the resolution 1244 is included in the legal foundations of the ongoing talks. Fleiner is disappointed over the fact that the international Troika, made up of representatives of the EU, Russia and the U.S., Wolfgang Ischinger, Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko and Frank Wisner, had so far refused to present their opinion on the contents of 1244 and its implications on the status issue, or to request an independent expert opinion in that respect. "The text of the resolution is quite clear to any lawyer and it calls for respect of sovereignty and search of a solution for Kosovo only within the essential autonomy framework," said Fleiner.
