Antic, Hochstein discuss Serbia-U.S. energy cooperation

Serbian Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic has met with U.S. State Department's Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs Amos Hochstein.

Antic, Hochstein discuss Serbia-U.S. energy cooperation

Antic said that Serbia is ready to step up cooperation with the U.S. in joint energy projects, the release states.

Hochstein voiced understanding for Serbia's position with regards to energy diversification, extending full support to Serbia in meeting these goals, and agreed to continue cooperation in this field.

Antic also conferred with the officials of Southern Company about the possibility of building a new thermal power plant in Serbia that would employ Transport Integrated Gasification (TRIG) technology, a coal-gasification method that is used for power generation with limited impact on the environment.

Southern Co. officials will be part of a delegation of the U.S. Department of Energy, which is scheduled to visit Serbia in July to work out the details of the joint project.
