"Topic of Crimea is forever closed"

Zelensky said previously that he intends to demand "the return of all territories and seek compensation."

Peskov said that what is happening in Donbass is a result of the policy of Ukraine's leaders, and that mentioning Crimea in this context is unacceptable, because this topic is "closed forever" and is no longer the subject of any discussion.

He said that Russia carefully observes the statements of the candidates, especially those concerning their state and bilateral relations, as well as the future of Donbass.

Peskov added that Russia would like to see those who are willing to settle the situation in the southeast of Ukraine on the basis of existing agreements come to power in Kiev.

Peskov stressed that everything that happened in the Crimea took place accordance with Ukrainian legislation and international law.

The initial election results show that Zelensky, a comedian, and the incumbent, President Petro Poroshenko are headed to the second round.

Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko came in third, but has disputed the results of the vote in the first round.
