Kiev wants international peacekeepers deployed
The Ukranian president's idea to have to have "an EU police mission" in eastern Ukraine was voiced late on Wednesday, after pro-Russian rebels seized the strategically important town of Debaltsevo.Debaltsevo fell three days after the ceasefire agreed in Minsk came into force.
The Russian website said that on Thursday, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council's secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said that the council had decided to address the UN and the EU on the deployment of peacekeepers in the country. Turchynov said that they should be stationed "at the line of contact and the Russian-Ukrainian border. "
Poroshenko's proposal to have peacekeepers with a UN mandate deployed would also have to be approved by parliament in Kiev.
