Russia writes off Afghanistan’s debt
Russia has written of Afghanistan’s debt to the total amount of USD 12bn, Russian FM Sergei Lavrov said at an international conference on Afghanistan in Kabul.

Russia has written of Afghanistan’s debt to the total amount of USD 12bn, Russian FM Sergei Lavrov said at an international conference on Afghanistan in Kabul. “This year Russia has written off the remaining part of Afghanistan’s debt worth USD 891mn,” he specified. Russia writes off Afghanistan’s debt Lavrov also informed the conference that ‘this year Russia would continue rendering humanitarian aid. “Recently supplies of wheat flour worth USD 5mn began as part of regular contribution to the UN World Food Program,” the minister explained. In 2007 Russia and Afghanistan signed an agreement on relief of the country’s debt to the former Soviet Union which had been supplying Afghanistan with military equipment. The debt was then estimated to USD 11bn. The Paris Club (of creditor nations) wrote off all Afghanistan’s debts worth more than USD 1bn in March.
