Serbia and Albania "shouldn't have been in same group"

"The athletes took no part in the brawl but they have been provoked. It is always a provocation. In football the national teams are the best ambassadors of the countries, and one must be very cautious when it comes to competition and try to not have matches where at the very beginning you know there could be a conflict," Blatter said.

"In FIFA competitions, Armenia and Azerbaijan, we do not put them in the same group in order to avoid the problem," he said, reiterating that "politics must not interfere with sport."

Ten days after the incident, UEFA awarded Serbia a 3-0 win but at the same time, deducted three points as punishment.

Also, Serbia will play their next two home qualifying matches behind closed doors, while both national football associations were handed EUR 100,000 fines.
