Zastava Automobili car manufacturer workers today held a public union meeting in front of the town hall in Kragujevac, central Serbia. They decided to reject a new offer they were given late on Monday by the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development. Carmaker workers reject offer Under its provisions, some 1,600 workers who will lose their jobs would be given EUR 300 per year of service in severance pay, would be registered with the National Employment Agency as soon as on January 4, start their two-year re-qualification training, and receive benefits for its duration. The benefits will progressively decrease over time from RSD 25,000 to 18,000 per month. Reports today said that after making their decision to reject the offer, "first 100 workers entered the town hall" in Kragujevac. The workers were made redundant when their company was shut down after Fiat Automobili Srbija (FAS), a joint venture of the Serbian government and Italian Fiat Group, took over its production line.
