Workers of DES, a company which employs the disabled, are protesting in front of the Economy Ministry building in Belgrade today. About 100 workers of the company gathered in Kralja Aleksandra Blvd. demanding payment of 19 overdue wages, consolidation of years of service and health insurance. Workers with disabilities protest They also demanded to be allowed to work since a large number of firms within DES do not have contracted work. Police are securing the rally, but the protesters have managed to force their way past the officers and to block the right lane of the street. Traffic resumed after negotiations between the union representatives and MUP Gendarmerie officers present, but the workers continued the protest. DES employs about 300 workers and half of them suffer from various types of disabilities. The workers say that their frequent protests have not brought any change for the better. A one year deadline for employers in Serbia, during which they were obligated to either employ a number of disabled persons or determine that they have that percentage already on their payroll, is expiring today.
