More than 20 Serbs protested today after failing to find new jobs a year after the Serbian government called on them to leave the Kosovo institutions. They blocked the Vitina municipal building, which is now located in the village of Vrbovac. Serbs protest over unkept promises One of the protesters, Stamen Djuric, told the Beta news agency that the people who had left the Kosovo institutions were disappointed that the Serbian institutions had yet to give them jobs, as had been promised. “The Serbian government passed a declaration that it would take on Serbs who leave the Kosovo institutions, so we don’t know why they are not honoring that pledge. We will continue with the blockade until someone addresses us and explains what will happen with us,” Djuric said. “We addressed everyone, from the municipal president to the Kosovo Ministry, and we have still not received an answer as to how our status will be settled, so we’ve decided to block the municipality because we don’t know what else to do,” Djuric said. He said that some 70 percent of Serbs who had left the Kosovo institutions a year ago had families to support, and that many of them did not have any income, while a small number of them were getting minimum wages of about EUR 115 a month.
