The incident happened after a number of Islamic Community in Serbia members led by head mufti Muamer Zukorlic had begun preparations for the scheduled laying of the foundation stone of a madrassa in Tutin. Members of Tutin’s Serbian Islamic Community led by Adem Zilkic opposed the move. According to Novi Pazar police, the situation is currently under control, and the police have separated the two factions. Skrijelj has been taken to hospital. The laying of the foundation stone has been rescheduled for March 10. The Serbian Islamic Community announced today that Zukorlic had appropriated land belonging to them. Construction of the madrassa began last May, and that, thus far, EUR 390,000 had been invested in the project. They asked the authorities “to put a stop to the brutal theft of property and the escalation of violence.” Meanwhile, the Islamic Community in Serbia considers the incident “another blow delivered by Sulejman Ugljanin’s political option to the Islamic Community, with the aim of bringing it and its property under his control.” In a statement to Tanjug, the Islamic Community in Serbia said that it would not back down from its aims, and labeled any attempt to obstruct the laying of the foundation stone “desperate efforts by the politically criminal elements led by Ugljanin.” Police step in (Beta)
