The 1942 deaths of 1,300 Serbs, Jews and Romas will be remembered in Novi Sad tomorrow. On January 22 that year, Hungarian fascists rounded up their victims in occupied Novi Sad, to murder them on the banks of the Danube, and throw their bodies under the ice covering the river, in a crime known as the Novi Sad Raid. Anniversary of Novi Sad Nazi massacre The site is today marked with a memorial, while the quay itself is named the Raid Victims Quay. The ceremonies tomorrow will start with the sounding of Serbian and Jewish spiritual music. Mayor Maja Gojkovic will address those present, while Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Bishop Irinej and Serbia's Chief Rabbi Isak Asijel will conduct the religious services. Afterwards, a Serbian Army (VS) river flotilla ship will lower wreaths to the Danube, to mark the place where the victims' bodies disappeared.
