Reservists stage protest, block highway

The blockade lasted from 11:20 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and finished without incident, even though about 100 police officers on the scene tried to prevent the road block from being put up.

The reservists have threatened to move on to more radical measures of protest, unless Defense Minister Dragan Šutanovac solves the question of their war wages the next week, organizers said.

They were able to block the highway today with the use of several trucks, a dredge and tractors.

Some 2,000 reservists from Kuršumlija have filed charges against the Serbian military for not paying the wages owed to them from time served in Kosovo in 1999.

The Defense Ministry stated that some of the soldiers have had their wages already paid, according to the ministry’s documentation.

The reservist held a similar protest in May this year.
