International judiciary conference held in Belgrade

Assistant Minister of Justice Snežana Malović spoke of the priorities her ministry set in reference to its future work, noting that establishment of an effective and sustainable network of courts and mechanisms for improving the work of the Serbian judiciary was one of them, the government reported on its web site.

According to Malović, the Ministry of Justice will also deal with establishing precise criteria for improving the work of employees in the judiciary, and the disciplinary responsibilities for conducting court procedures in an inept, inefficient and unsuitable manner.

She stressed that effective legislation should be the result of a consensus between legislative and executive authorities, adding that any criticism directed at relevant ministries would be considered as constructive recommendation for resolving divisive questions.

Participants of the conference gathered to examine international standards regarding the position of judges and prosecutors in democracy, personnel problems in judiciary and prosecution reform, guarantee of independence in judiciary, and the question of liability.
