Šešelj in court on February 28
Vojislav Šešelj last time appeared in court on November 8 2006 at a status conference and afterwards went on a hunger strike refusing to appear at the status conference on November 22.Šešelj also failed to show up before the court at the beginning of his trial on November 27, 2006 when the prosecution presented its opening statement. The Appeals Chamber annuled that part of the trial on December 6, 2006 and accepted most of the accused' demands to bring about the end of his hunger strike.
The Tribunal has not yet set the date of the new trial. It is highly unlikely that the new process against Šešelj would begin in the first half of this year, having in mind that the Hague Tribunal has four ongoing trials with three more to begin soon.
