Croatian FM: Agreement on withdrawal of suits is possible

Croatia’s FM Vesna Pusić has assessed that her Serbian counterpart Ivan Mrkić's statement on a possibility of withdrawal of genocide lawsuits is positive.

ZAGREB Croatia’s FM Vesna Pusic has assessed that her Serbian counterpart Ivan Mrkic's statement on a possibility of withdrawal of genocide lawsuits is positive. Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has stated that “the agreement is always possible”. Croatian FM: Agreement on withdrawal of suits is possible Pusic and Josipovic pointed out, however, that it was first necessary to find solutions for other open issues. “We said then that we were ready to talk about mutual suits on condition that solutions for four key open issues are found. If we manage to find bilateral ways to solve them, then we are ready to put the issue of the mutual genocide lawsuits on the agenda,” the Croatian foreign minister noted. She added that the open issues were the missing persons, return of cultural wealth and the prosecution of war crime suspects. Mrkic told daily Vecernje novosti that an agreement on mutual withdrawal of the genocide charges was possible and announced a meeting with Pusic. “An agreement on withdrawal of the lawsuits is possible. The awareness that we should build something that will really unburden the future generations is developing on both sides. Pusić and Josipović pointed out, however, that it was first necessary to find solutions for other open issues.
