Suspected drug smuggler arrested in Montenegro

Montenegrin police have arrested Dusko Micunovic according to a warrant issued by Italian authorities. He is suspected of participating in an international drug smuggling ring. Suspected drug smuggler arrested in Montenegro Police stated that Micunovic is a Serbian citizen and that he was arrested on Saturday night in Budva. Police found a fake passport and weapons in the apartment in which he was staying. He will be turned over to the Investigative Judge of the Kotor District Court on Monday for suspected counterfeit personal documents and the illegal possession of weapons. Podgorica news portal Analitika stated that Italian authorities believe Micunovic was a leader of a criminal group that is suspected in Italy of smuggling 87 kilograms of cocaine into the country. According to Analitika, Micunovic’s arrest is part of the international Checkmate action against organized crime. According to portal’s source, Micunovic is a Serbian citizen and will be held in custody until he is extradited to the Serbian authorities. In late January, some 30 members of an international crime group were arrested in Italy and 10 kilograms of uncut cocaine were seized.
