Montenegrin Interior Minister Jusuf Kalamperovic said that Montenegro and Serbia will sign the agreement regarding dual citizenship by late May. He told Podgorica's Antena M Radio that there will be a new set of talks scheduled by the end of this week. Dual citizenship deal "by late May" Kalamperovic said that it is realistic to expect Montenegro and Serbia to remain with the same stances, but that there will be an agreement for an exchange of information on persons from each country that had received citizenships of the other. He said that Montenegro will ask that those who want to become Montenegrin citizens must relinquish their Serbian citizenship. Interior ministry officials from both countries began negotiating the issue in October 2008, but then the talks were halted. Montenegro has a restrictive policy, while Serbia has taken a liberal position when ti comes to giving citizenship, which is seen as the main reason why an agreement has yet to be reached.
