Slovenia has been shaken by the discovery of its own “Josef Fritzl“ case. Media report that a teenage girl has been sexually abused by her father. Slovenia in shock after discovery of own "Fritzl" case After becoming pregnant, the father locked her up in her house and watched her every step. The girl is in ninth year at a primary school in Ptuj. Initially, the father wrote letters asking her to be excused from PE, and after the pregnancy became obvious, the daughter stopped going to school for three months. The press states that the school failed to report the girl’s absence to the police in that time, as the father had informed the school that the family was moving abroad. The girl reported her father on Saturday as she was about to give birth at a hospital in Maribor. The police arrested the father immediately. He is in custody in a Maribor prison, though the police are unwilling to divulge any further details of the case in view of its gravity. The Ptuj center for social work has been more cooperative, however, stating that it heard about the case a week ago from a “concerned citizen“. The media states that police will charge the father with a number of crimes, given that this is not the first time that the family in question has come to the attention of the social services—16 years ago, they investigated claims of abuse by the man’s other daughter, who was 17 at the time. As no charges were ever brought over those accusations and the family then moved abroad, the matter was never investigated, which is why the police will now establish whether the man's other two daughters have been victims of abuse. Before charges can be pressed, the 15-year-old victim will first have to undergo genetic analysis to establish that it was indeed her father that got her pregnant, writes the 24ur portal.
