Croat vandalized Ovčara memorial

The Ovcara memorial near Vukovar was defaced by 44-year old Croat D.R. from the village of Stivice. Besides writing messages in marker pen on the memorial such as “This is Serbia”, “Serbia”, and four Cyrillic “c” letters, police also found a stolen Croatian flag and wooden cross in the suspect’s possession. Police picked D.R. up on the road between Vukovar and the village of Sotin this morning after people called the police to say that they had seen him circling the building on his bike yesterday and that he had slept on a nearby park bench. He will be charged with defaming Croatia’s reputation and will appear before the investigative judge in Vukovar. The memorial commemorates the execution of some 200 Croatian prisoners following Vukovar’s occupation by Serb forces in November 1991.
