Ivo Sanader says Croatia will recognize Kosovo “when the time’s right, this month,” without giving the exact date. Croatian media have already been speculating for some days that recognition could take place as early as March 13. Sanader: Croatia to recognize "this month" Commenting on President Boris Tadic’s appeal to Croatia not to recognize Kosovo’s unilateral independence, the Croatian prime minister said that Belgrade should be more restrained in its statements. Sanader said that Croatia wanted good relations with its neighbors, and that he would propose to his Serbian counterpart Vojislav Kostunica a resumption of bilateral talks on unresolved issues. Meanwhile, Vice-President of the Independent Serb Party (SDSS) Milorad Pupovac said today that Croatia had no reason to be hasty when it came to recognizing Kosovo’s unilateral independence. Following Sanader’s statement that Croatia would recognize Kosovo “when the time’s right, this month,” Pupovac told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik to take those words with a pinch of salt, and stressed that “Croatia’s position thus far cannot change without talks with the coalition partners.” That position, which is also supported by Croatian businessmen, is that “Croatia has no need to be in the first wave,” stressed Pupovac, expressing his expectation that Sanader would address the SDSS and his other coalition partners on the matter.
