President Tomislav Nikolic says it is important that Kosovo remains a top priority of the United Nations, in order to maintain stability.

According to a statement issued by the president's cabinet, quoted by Beta, Nikolic "pointed to the importance of the role of the mission in Kosovo and Metohija and voiced expectation that the scope and the number of UNMIK members would not change."

"It is very important that Kosovo remains a top priority of the United Nations, because we continue to invest great efforts to maintain stability and not let certain situations escalate into a crisis," said Nikolic, and thanked the Tanin for UNMIK fulfilling its mandate "in an objective and impartial way".

Expressing his satisfaction that reports are being regularly submitted to the UN Security Council, the president added that this practice "contributes to the international community's insight into the events in Kosovo and Metohija."

"We are negotiating with Pristina, although the EU is fully on their side, but everyone should be clear that we will never recognize Kosovo," he said.

"On the other hand, we expect Pristina to show willingness to respect the law and implement what has been agreed, primarily the Community of Serb Municipalities," said Nikolic .

Tanin "thanked Nikolic for the strong support to the mission, stating that UNMIK is making an effort in order for all reports to the UN Security Council be balanced and objective," the statement added.

"We have worked a lot on the field, providing support to institutions. The report will be of great benefit to the entire international community," Tanin said, "expressing his expectation that the mandate and the activities of UNMIK would not be changed."
