Disgraced defense minister plans to host holiday reception

Gasic's dismissal was announced earlier this month by Aleksandar Vucic after the minister made a sexist remark directed at a B92 reporter.

After the offensive remark met with the condemnation of the public and the media, both Vucic and Gasic said it was inexcusable. Vucic then on several occasions stated that Gasic would be replaced, one time linking this outcome to staying in office.

On Tuesday, Vucic told B92 that he must find "an adequate replacement" before sacking Gasic.

The fact the defense minister is still has his job has prompted the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS) to schedule a protest for Monday, and urge the prime minister to immediately submit his proposal for Gasic's dismissal.

A NUNS statement said that the delay was "an attempt to relativize the case."

The invitation to the reception hosted by Gasic was sent to former Defense Minister, Dragan Sutanovac - now a member of the Serbian national assembly from the ranks of the opposition Democrats (DS - who posted it on Twitter.

Sutanovac was one of the participants in the scandal that broke out after Gasic's sexist remark, because he liked a tweet that contained a similar insult - only this time directed at a member of the ruling SNS party.

After he was criticized, Sutanovac "withdrew his like" from the tweet, while Vucic noted that "nobody asked for his dismissal although he also presented a brutal insult aimed at all women."

The invitation posted by Sutanovac:
