Mogherini stated that she asked the French exert to, within four months, prepare his report and make recommendations regarding the implementation of EU's justice and rule of law mission in Kosovo."Jacques is a prominent law professor with over 40 years experience. As director of the Legal Service of the Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, he has unique expertise and experience to investigate these allegations," Mogherini said.
"Clarifying the allegations is in our interest, in my interest at the start of my mandate, and in the interest of the new head of mission, with whom I considered these steps," she added.
As stated, the appointment of Jacques shows the willingness of Brussels to fully clarify the details of the corruption claims.
"I reiterate my support for the head of mission of EULEX and his team, whose credibility deserves to be fully preserved. The EU remains committed to assisting the authorities in the region in their fight against corruption and organized crime, "said Mogherini.
After the recent allegations of corruption within the EU mission in Kosovo became public, the European Commission announced it had been investigating the claims "since December last year."
