BELGRADE Opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica has once again warned that Serbia must reject EU's "ultimatums". This former Yugoslav president and Serbian prime minister believes that the European Union is abusing Serbia's desire to join the organization by "tearing the country apart". "Serbia's top priority is to break free from EU blackmail" "Serbia's top national and state interest is to break free from the chain of European Union's blackmail, which is using European integrations and the giving of a date (for the start of membership talks) as a mask for tearing Serbia apart and taking away Kosovo," Kostunica said on Wednesday in a written statement. According to him, in order for the country to regain its freedom and have a normal economic development, it must reject EU's ultimatum linked to the issue of receiving a date. "Getting that date is nothing but the start of a new round of blackmails of Serbia, and devastation of its economy and national interests. It doesn't take too much to understand that with this balance of power any solution of the Kosovo issue must go against Serbia's interests. The EU and the U.S. are direct sponsors in creating an independent Kosovo," Kostunica stated. Vojislav Kostunica (Beta, file) Beta
