PRISTINA The fifth anniversary of the ethnic Albanian unilateral declaration of independence will go without organizations gathering former KLA members. They announced on Wednesday that they were "withdrawing from all activities" the mark the anniversary. KLA organizations "won't take part in celebrations" The former members of the now disbanded group also said that they "did not do so willingly, but were forced to because state institutions were circumventing those who, with their efforts, sacrifice, body parts and lives, contributed the most to the proclamation of independence of the republic of Kosovo". The statement clarified that a march to mark the anniversary, where "KLA veterans were to take part along with members of the Kosovo Security Forces", would go without them. The decision to exclude them, they said, "shows subservience to the international community institutions", while the KLA is seen as "a thorn in the side". For this reason, the organizations gathering former KLA members will mark the day independently, "outside the institutions". Ethnic Albanians in Kosovo will on Feb. 17 mark five years since their unilateral declaration, which Serbia rejects. More than 90 countries have recognized Kosovo, but not Russia and China, who are permanent UN Security Council members. At the same time, 22 out of EU's 27 member-states recognize Kosovo. Beta
