PRISTINA Kosovo Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi has stated that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is “misinformed” about the situation in Kosovo. “The report was made by UNMIK’s structures in Kosovo. We could not expect anything better because they are a little angry about the reduced funding for the office. I cannot criticize Ban Ki-moon because he read the report that came from UNMIK, which is a complete disinformation,” he stressed. UN chief is misinformed, Kosovo IM says In the report, the UN secretary general strongly criticized the Kosovo police over a series of mistakes made in the last three months. The report should be discussed by the UN Security Council on August 21. “Ban Ki-moon is seriously concerned about the Kosovo police’s reactions during a series of incidents that followed the celebration of the St. Vitus Day, stating that the lack of action ‘seriously questions the ability of the police to face crisis situations and gain public trust’,” the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) reported on August 8. Rexhepi stressed that the Kosovo police “have done an excellent job” and that they acted professionally during this year’s celebration of the St. Vitus Day. When asked whether there had been any mistakes when it came to the security of the Serbian community in Kosovo, he said that “measures will be taken in order for everybody to be safe”. Commenting on the murder of Ljijana and Milovan Jevtic in the village of Talinovac in July, the Kosovo interior minister said that “it is unfortunately possible that perpetrators will not be found” but stressed that the Pristina authorities would everything in order to secure safety. “As far as the report on the celebration of the St. Vitus Day is concerned, I can once again say that it is the UN secretary general’s complete disinformation. The police did their job well,” Rexhepi concluded. Bajram Rexhepi (file) Beta
