The Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) adopted a draft financial plan for presidential elections on Thursday. RIK has requested around RSD 550mn for the holding of the presidential elections. Financial plan for presidential elections adopted RIK Secretary Veljko Odalovic explained that the Commission would use 70 percent of the funds for polling stations, ballot boxes and printing of ballots. He noted that if the presidential elections were held independently, RIK would need a little over RSD 1bn in order to organize them but that it needed only the half of the sum bearing in mind that the presidential elections would be held together with parliamentary and local elections on May 6. According to Odalovic, RIK only envisaged funds for the parliamentary elections in its 2012 financial plan but the Finance Ministry stated at the time that it would subsequently allocate means for the presidential elections. The Serbian government has allocated a total of RSD 1.39bn for the upcoming elections. RSD 843mn will be used for the election campaigns and RIK will get RSD 550mn.
