Serbian President and Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic said Saturday that the upcoming elections were crucial for Serbia. He also said that the party would never form an unprincipled government that would put Serbia's strategic goals into jeopardy. Upcoming elections crucial, president says The leader of the Democrats called on the members of the DS Main Board to lead the DS to victory in the elections, so as not to allow the forces that could put Serbia on a backward path to get back to power. “We reformed the essence of the Serbian society, but that does not mean that these elections are not important. They are crucial in preventing the people who created violence and self-destruction and who could set the entire process than began in 2000 in a backward direction,” said Tadic. He called for absolute mobilization of the DS membership, citizenship and intellectuals in order to prevent such a scenario from coming true. “The danger is still there, and we must fight against it. It will no longer be there when Serbia gets the date for the start of (EU) membership negotiations, which we expect this year,” the president pointed out. He said that the parties that did not have their own principles, visions or plans, and who had been advocating for a “Greater Serbia,” while now advocated for Europe, were leading Serbia to endless turns.
