The EU is closely monitoring the judicial reform in Serbia since it is an important part of the integration process for each country that wants to join the EU. “The European Commission (EC) shares the ombudsman’s concern about several issues, especially about the lack of quorum in the High Judicial Council (VSS),” EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule’s Spokesman Peter Stano told B92. EU closely monitoring judicial reform in Serbia “In the past few months we have raised the question, especially in a letter to the Serbian authorities in mid-December in which we requested from them to ensure the widest possible transparency of the work of the two councils – the High Judicial Council and the State Prosecutors Council,” he explained. The EU Delegation in Serbia is also concerned over the situation in the VSS after Serbian Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic had assessed that the VSS work was not legitimate due to the lack of quorum. “The EU will carefully study the ombudsman’s opinion. In the first reaction we can confirm that we share his concern regarding several things, especially when it comes to the lack of quorum in VSS,” said Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert.
