Serbia and Algeria have strong friendly ties, Algeria supports Serbia and believes that the Kosovo issue can be solved only by a consensus at the UNSC This is what visiting Algerian Foreign Minister Murad Medelci told Tanjug news agency in Belgrade late on Thursday. Algeria FM voices support for Serbia "The Kosovo issue has been raised to the level of the UN Security Council jurisdiction, and it is the UN Security Council that should find a final solution through achieving a consensus on the matter," Medelci said, during a ceremony in Belgrade to open the new Algerian embassy. He pointed out that Algeria, like many other countries, will refrain from taking a stand on Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence until the consensus has been reached. Medelci said that Algeria supports Serbia and encourages a prompt initiation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue aimed at finding a solution to the Kosovo issue. Speaking about the relations between Algeria and Serbia, Medelci noted that the two countries share strong, friendly and exemplary ties, and that their relations have been improving since the 1990s which were, as he said, a difficult period for both countries. Presidents of Algeria and Serbia requested that the two countries' relations and cooperation should be intensified, and the visit of Serbian President Boris Tadic to Algeria, which has been scheduled for 2011, will serve as additional impetus, the Algerian minister stated. According to Medelci, the plan for the next five years will enable many Serbian companies to establish cooperation with Algeria, and the two countries' companies will be able to join forces and act together on the Algerian and, later on, on the regional market.
