He said that there is more reason to be hopeful than for being worried. However, despite Cvetkovic’s optimism, businesspeople are more worried than ever. Serbian Association of Managers President Slobodan Vucicevic said that the decrease in the value of the domestic currency and the unstable business atmosphere are the most worrisome aspects. “As businesspeople, we begged, asked, demanded, and appealed for the exchange rate to be put under control, and for us to not have that lack of competitiveness as a result of the negative exchange rate, which no one else in the region has,” Vucicevic said. European Commission delegation chief in Belgrade Vincent Degert said that last year was “very successful for Serbia”, but reminded that there are new challenges awaiting “on its road toward Europe”. “We have to maintain this direction this year. Our goal as officials of the European Union is to encourage progress by moving forward with the ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, which will be discussed next week in Luxembourg. Also, by making sure that Serbia’s demand for obtaining candidate status progresses as well,” Degert said. Cvetkovic speaks at the gathering on Wednesday (Beta)
