The agreement between the Serbian and Italian police forces on jointly tackling all forms of crime is a new step forward, said IM Ivica Dacic yesterday. The agreement signed in Rome envisages “cooperation in combating organized crime, drug trafficking and international terrorism, and lays a legal basis for fostering cooperation,“ he told Tanjug from Rome. Serbian, Italian IMs sign cooperation deal The agreement was signed by Dacic and Italian Interior Minister Roberto Maroni. “Agreement was also reached on continuing the training of Serbian police officers in Italy, especially traffic police," the minister said. Italy's support in access to EU funds for automatic traffic control on the highway section through Serbia was also discussed, he said. ”It’s important to stress that Italy fully supports and will give every assistance to Serbia’s EU integration path, it supports liberalization of the visa regime and placing Serbia on the Schengen white list,” said Dacic. The minister said that in “the first half of 2009 a solution can finally be expected to the issue of driving licenses that has been a particular nuisance for our citizens, as well as on reciprocal recognition and validity of driving licenses.“ He said that he hoped that the agreement would be signed in the first few months of next year, adding that his Italian counterpart would be visiting Serbia soon.
