UN refusal of Serbia's ICJ request would send a signal that force was the way to solve problems, FM Vuk Jeremic said on Wednesday. Jeremic and President Boris Tadic are both in New York to urge countries gathered for the 63rd UN General Assembly session to support Belgrade's resolution asking the International Court of Justice, ICJ, to give its opinion on the legality of Kosovo Albanians' unilateral independence declaration. "Refusal would affect whole world" "This is the first time in the turbulent history of the Balkans that someone has tried to resolve a dispute of this importance peacefully," the foreign minister said in an interview with Reuters. "If the UN General Assembly decided to block the Serbian request, it would send a very negative signal," said Jeremic, who, as the news agency noted, is part of the "new pro-European Serbian government". "I think that the effect of this signal, not only to Serbia, not only to the region but I think to the whole world would be: 'If you want to solve a problem, go and use force, because that's how you solve problems,'" the he continued. Jeremic said, however, that he thinks the UN General Assembly will approve Serbia's proposal.
