The sole Albanian MP in the Serbian parliament, Riza Halimi, says he “had no plans to be part of the ruling majority.“ "I included two demands that were of key importance to Albanians living in the Presevo Valley in my letter to President Boris Tadic. I sent that letter on June 18, but I haven’t as yet received any answer, and that’s the reason I’m not supporting the ruling coalition in the Serbian parliament,” Halimi told Beta. Halimi said that he had asked Tadic to reorganize the Coordinative Body for the South of Serbia to include Albanians, and also to increase the number of ethnic Albanians in state institutions at local level. "Had an agreement on increased Albanian participation in state institutions at municipal level been reached, it would have been reflected in the constitution of local authorities in Presevo and Bujanovac, because we would have offered the Serbs proportional involvement in local government,” said the leader of the Party for Democratic Action (PDD). He added that ethnic Albanians had not as yet received any signal either from Tadic or his Democratic Party as to their views on the matter. "However, this does not mean that I will not support proposals that lead towards EU integration, above all, the Stabilization and Association Agreement,” said Halimi. The PDD leader added that it was uncertain whether the Presevo and Bujanovac local assemblies would be formed within the legally stipulated time frame. Riza Halimi (FoNet, archive)
