Poll: 69% of citizens for EU membership

The poll indicates that the citizens' orientation for European integrations is stable and that the EU remains the institution which they expect the most from.

Miščević said that 46 percent of the citizens look positively on the EU, which is a six percent increase against last year, while 20 percent of the citizens have a negative stand.

According to half of those surveyed, Serbia's accession to the EU is mostly hindered by permanent conditioning and blackmails of the EU, while 20 percent of the respondents cited the country's failure to meet international obligations.

Miščević noted that the percent of those who oppose cooperation with the Hague tribunal has dropped from 57 to 54 percent, adding that of the total, 25 percent would still back cooperation if it were a condition to Serbia's accession to the EU.

In the event that the EU recognizes the independence of Kosovo, 71 percent of the respondents believe that Serbia should still continue cooperation with the EU, while 29 percent are for severing diplomatic ties with the EU, the poll showed.

According to the results, 59 percent of those surveyed believe that Serbia should rely on the support of Russia, Belarus, and China, while 41 percent are for Serbia's independent development.
