Kosovo Serbs rally in front of US Embassy

Protesters held banners that read “Kosovo is ours” and “We won’t give Kosovo”. There were also enlarged pictures of the Russian and Chinese presidents with the word “Veto” written on them. Mock pictures of UN special Kosovo envoy Martti Ahtisaari with an Albanian cap on his head could also be seen.

Serbs from Kosovo headed out to Belgrade in masses, which is why Serb municipalities in Kosovo declared February 27 a non-working day, the Serb National Council said in a statement.

Ahead of the rally, the organizers said they staged the protest so as to express dissatisfaction with Ahtisaari’s plan for the Kosovo status settlement which would pave the way for Kosovo’s independence and the partition of Serbia.

The Democratic Party of Serbia, The Serbian radical party and the Socialist Party of Serbia backed the rally of Kosovo Serbs.
