He said that 300 experts from different fields took part in preparing the strategy since 2005, while a public debate on the final draft version is expected to last until the end of this year.

The Strategy for Sustainable Development, along with strategies for reducing poverty, for economic development and for joining the EU, is supposed to define a vision where Serbia should be in ten years development-wise, explained Đelić.

An international conference on environmental protection is set to take place in Belgrade in October this year, where Serbia will have a chance to receive support for projects dealing with sustainable development and raise public awareness about the importance of a contribution by the general public to issues of environmental care, poverty reduction and economic development.

The 2008 budget will also allocate funds for the Office for Sustainable Development, under the auspices of the vice president’s cabinet.
